Myrrh is the other basic ingredient in many forms of incense. Rarely burned alone, Myrrh increases the power of any other incense to which it is added. Long used as a preservative, it is widely used in healing rituals, incense, sachets and charm bags. Its smoke is used to consecrate, purify and bless such objects as talismans, charms, amulets and magical tools. Myrrh aids the practices of meditation and contemplation and is also associated with the dead and with mourning; it is therefore often used in the incense at funeral rites.
